Plant supports are natural, aren't they? That's what we thought too…
Unfortunately, nothing could have been further from the truth. Millions of plant stakes and moulds contained toxins, dead coco fibre, iron, and plastic.
These are discarded along with the plant, causing significant damage to the compost.
We use potato peel and elephant grass to create smart, inspiring growth concepts that make climbing plants fun again.
Over 1,000,000 plants have now been fitted with a sustainable climbing stick. 100% compostable with the structure of tree bark!
In our 1.4-hectare greenhouse, there are approximately 50,000 to 100,000 climbing plants growing at Kratiste at any given time!

Start development
Why do plant stakes consist of plastic, toxins (against mould), and dead coconut fibre as a ‘growth accelerator’?
How is it that millions of consumers buy harmful, poorly functioning moss sticks and plant forms every year?
There appears to be no sustainable and user-friendly alternative worldwide!
We are starting with the development of 100% natural plant sticks, with the natural structure of tree bark. This provides grip and good moisture absorption for the plant.
First products
The challenges are proving greater than expected. Creating a rough structure with millions of tiny holes per rod is proving very difficult.
The products must also fully natural & compostable.
This ensures that some plant supports start composting in the nursery.
Displays
Consumers are finding the concept fantastic! Sales displays are being rolled out across hundreds of stores throughout Europe.
Unfortunately, some climbing sticks still compost too early. Based on feedback from our customers and their involvement in creating sustainable impact, we will get our processes under control.
80% of the climbing sticks remain good for years, even after they have been in the nursery.
Short lengths of timber are approved independently by OWS
A special milestone: Kratiste is the world's first compostable plant support. Independently proven free from toxins and plastic.
We have finally reached our goal: plant stakes and forms that remain in the nursery for up to 12 months and with the customer for years. And once they are discarded, they fully decompose into compost. That's how it should be, in our opinion!
